It is all about the beginning (for now)!

So next week will be my first official loaf given away!  It is very exciting (from where I sit, type, knead, or stir) to begin this new chapter.  As I start to think about my first week, my thoughts are focused on two things–what bread, and who should I give it to?

The what will probably be easy.  I am thinking I will probably do a Jim Lahey riff of a beautiful no-knead boule, but I am tempted to do some mix-ins.  However, since it is my first, there is something sort of glorious about doing the basic, just amazing bread.  I can already smell it!

The much more exciting thing to think about is the who.  My husband was asking the other day if I would pick people I know or random strangers.  He said that later part with one eyebrow sort of raised.  I could see he was picturing his scary bread wife waving down people in parking lots to hand them homemade food…with love.  The truth is, I would sort of love to do that, but picturing being the recipient of that makes me feel like maybe starting with someone a little closer to me, or who at least knows me enough to be tempted by the smell of homemade bread is a safer bet.  I am thinking a little more removed than family or super close friends.  Sorry guys!  You will no doubt get your turn!

I expect the who and the what of the project to be the driving force behind many of my posts, but today, it’s all about possibilities.  Like every new beginning should be.  It is exciting to think about, and I want to stretch that out a bit longer.  More to come!
